B+ Hero Spotlight: B+ Hero Lilly and Gamma Phi Beta
The relationship between a B+ Hero and their paired organization is not only special, but also reminds us of the importance behind everything that we do for the kids. Starting this summer, we will be introducing B+ Heroes and showcasing how valuable the experiences between a family and their paired organization are.
B+ Hero Lilly was diagnosed with cancer on July 5, 2013, and is now over three years cancer-free. She was paired with Gamma Phi Beta in 2014, and they have since been with each other through the many steps of cancer treatment and recovery. Throughout that time, Gamma Phi Beta and B+ Hero Lilly have developed an unbreakable bond and grown to be each other’s best friends.
Some of Gamma Phi Beta’s favorite moments with B+ Hero Lilly include bringing her to her favorite restaurant, Texas Roadhouse, to celebrate being three years cancer-free, or singing and dancing with her during Karaoke night. It is the little moments with her that mean the most to them. They specifically remember singing with her on the porch of the Gamma Phi Beta house after their fundraising event; Spagammi. Her talent and outgoing personality are sure to brighten every single moment, and the sisters of Gamma Phi Beta make sure to invite her to any fundraising event that they hold. Whether it’s Spagammi or a Main Street Dinner Crawl, B+ Hero Lilly truly makes each and every experience even better.
Even throughout the difficulties of a socially distant world, Gamma Phi Beta have used FaceTime to stay closely connected with B+ Hero Lilly. Her family discussed the impact of The B+ Foundation and Gamma Phi Beta on not only B+ Hero Lilly, but also their family, by saying, “Since being paired with Gamma Phi Beta in 2014, B+ Hero Lilly has been blessed with many amazing sisters. They have done several things together such as dinners, spa nights, attending UDance events, and much more. B+ Hero Lilly has defeated cancer and is now over three years cancer-free.”
There is a similar feeling of thankfulness that comes from the paired organization as well. When asked to explain B+ Hero Lilly’s connection to their organization, Gamma Phi Beta said that she is their sister and one of the best people they have ever met. “We are very close with B+ Hero Lilly and LOVE her! We miss her more and more every day that we can't see her, especially throughout this pandemic, but cannot wait to be reunited!” They added that B+ Hero Lilly is their shining star and they are looking forward to more moments with her in the future.
Ever since being paired in 2014, there have been many moments of singing, dancing, celebrating, and further getting to know each other. Even when hard times occur, the two make sure to stay connected and never lose touch. Whether it is virtually or in-person, B+ Hero Lilly and the sisters of Gamma Phi Beta will continue to strengthen their bond as we enter a new semester, and going forward forever.
