B+ Hero Spotlight: B+ Hero Emily and Club Gymnastics
The relationship between a B+ Hero and their paired organization is not only special, but also reminds us of the importance behind everything that we do for the kids. Starting this summer, we will be introducing B+ Heroes and showcasing how valuable the experiences between a family and their paired organization are.
B+ Hero Emily recently celebrated her last day of cancer treatment on June 27, 2020. In honor of her bravery and strength, our first B+ Hero Blog will highlight the bond between B+ Hero Emily and the University of Delaware’s Club Gymnastics team. They were paired together during the 2018 fall semester, and have built an inseparable relationship while being there to support B+ Hero Emily every step of the way!
While on campus, the UD Club Gymnastics team are always looking for different ways to not only spend time with B+ Hero Emily, but also assist her family when possible. They have babysat, invited B+ Hero Emily to their gymnastics meets, and attended UDance events with her. No matter what the event or occasion is, spending it with B+ Hero Emily is sure to brighten their day and create valuable memories.
Some of the team’s favorite experiences include B+ Hero Emily’s Trolls themed birthday party, and the night before UDance 2019, when her parents hosted a pasta party for the entire team. For her birthday party, team members styled their hair like the trolls in the movie to make the experience even more special for B+ Hero Emily! The team considers her to be like a little sister to them, and they are so thankful to have the opportunity to be a part of her and her family’s lives.
When asked to describe B+ Hero Emily and her connection to their organization, the UD Club Gymnastics team said that she is the center of their team. “B+ Hero Emily is the biggest ball of energy, and sometimes we just can’t keep up! She is so much fun to be around and never fails to make us laugh. She loves performing for people and always greets everyone she sees.” They added that she even comes to support the team at their meets, and always wears the red leotard that they gifted her!
Since being paired in 2018, the bond between the team and B+ Hero Emily has only become stronger. As we begin to enter a new semester in a socially distant world, the team will continue to support B+ Hero Emily and find ways to foster their relationship with her, even when it can not be in person. They know that no matter what they will continue to be each other’s biggest cheerleaders!
