From Passion to Action: UDance’s New Events this Fall Semester!

It’s that time of year again where another semester is coming to a close; but, this semester was one filled with exciting firsts and groundbreaking events that we can’t help but reminisce about. Our UDance community has been buzzing with energy and enthusiasm since August thanks to our dedicated community of UD students and supporters. We’re so proud of everything we have accomplished thus far, especially the ongoing efforts of this year’s executive board. In this blog, we’ll take you through our fun-filled fall semester and leave you wanting more to come this spring…

HIIT For Hope

Members of the UD Greek Life community gathered on the North campus turf one evening in September for a HIIT workout class.

Joe McDonough’s Healthcare Talk

Earlier this semester, Joe McDonough addressed the pre-healthcare professional groups on campus one evening, graciously sharing his personal experiences in and out of hospitals and doctor’s offices during his son, Andrew’s, fight against AML Leukemia. His insights shed light on how healthcare professionals can make a significant impact in the lives of families, such as the McDonoughs, who are fighting childhood cancer. Students pursuing paths to become healthcare professionals, including members of the Student Nurses Organization and others majoring in OT, PT, AT, and more, resonated with Joe's talk; it reminded them of the profound difference they will make, connecting them to the real-world impact of their future work. Joe's words inspired them to continue their journey, both within UDance and academically. Many of these students are destined for careers in pediatrics, and we applaud their passion for dedicating their lives to the health and well-being of others!

DDF Dance Class

Delaware Dance Fever reps, Shae and Lauren, with the help of our RSO team, brought a brand new idea to life by hosting a dance class for some of our incredible B+ Heroes. DDF’s B+ Hero Emma and her sister, joined by B+ Hero Emily and her Gymnastics reps, joined in on the fun and immersed themselves in the joy of dance. The infectious energy and cheer during the class were captured in a TikTok they made: take a look here and witness the magic of the DDF Dance Class!

Kendra Scott x UDance Profit Share

This November, we celebrate the opening of a brand new Kendra Scott Christiana Mall location at their “shop for good” event in support of UDance and The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation! We enjoyed refreshments, a gift with any purchase, limited edition UDance merchandise, and special surprises. 20% of our Kendra Scott purchases were donated back to support the fundraising efforts of UDance! This profit share event raised over $1,000 for the fight against childhood cancer!

RSO v Sig-C Family Feud

Members across many of UD’s Special Interest Greek Chapters including, Gamma Sigma Sigma, Alpha Phi Omega, Delta Sigma Pi, Alpha Kappa Psi, Phi Chi Theta, Alpha Zeta, Sigma Alpha, Alpha Omega Epsilon, and Phi Sigma Pi participated in a Family Feud style competition hosted by members of the UDance Executive Board. In the end, DSP took home the win and everyone had a great time!

Calling for a Cure

After 2 years, Calling For a Cure is back! Members of the UDance community were invited to a UDance telethon hosted by this year's Canning team. Students came together to call past and current donors asking for their support for UDance 2024! In just a few short hours, Calling For A Cure raised $2500! We’re so proud of everyone who attended and thankful for their continued efforts.

As the semester comes to a close, UDance bids farewell to a fall filled with groundbreaking events and spirited community engagement. Guided by the passion of our executive board, we've experienced everything from invigorating HIIT workouts to unforgettable dance classes, spirited Family Feud competitions, and impactful fundraising efforts. As we wrap up this semester, the promise of more meaningful moments in the spring keeps us eagerly anticipating what's to come!
